George Swanberg -
In loving memory of our friend & co-worker George "Bear" Swanberg
Born and raised in Roebling, he was the son of the late Alex and Edith Jolly Swanberg.
He worked for 33 years at U.S. Steel, Fairless Work, until he retired in 1989.
As a second career (and passion), George made his presence known, to the delight of all who knew him, at Danzeisen and Quigley in Cherry Hill until 2008. His performance, knowledge and dedication to the sport of skiing will last forever in our memories. Not to mention, to see the man ski was poetry in motion, a true master of the sport (and in our hearts, even better than you Stein!~)
He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 28 in Bordentown, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 39 in Roebling.
George was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose King Swanberg; his two sisters, Cheryl Rybacki (Don) of Philadelphia, and Cindi Swanberg of Palmyra; five grandchildren, Kelly and Shawn Rybacki, and Kal, Rachel and Hannah Kaluhiokalani; and one niece, Gay Corcoran of Hamilton, N.J. He also leaves his very dear friend, Dennis Ragone of Cherry Hill. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Breece of Trenton; and his nephew, Gary Feltham. He will be missed by many friends and extended family in Vermont.
A memorial service will be held at Chadwick Memorial Home in Riverside, N.J. Date and time to be announced later. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
